Title:

Partisanship, Representation and Redistricting: An Illinois Case Study

 Volume/Number:  2014 September
 Issuing Agency:
Description:  During the fall of 2012, Decatur residents were subjected to a barrage of political ads promoting and attacking the two candidates for the 48th District seat in the Illinois Senate. Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy, the Republican candidate, and Andy Manar, who at the time was the Chairman of the Macoupin County Board, spent more than $2.5 million and saturated the airwaves with commercials. Without an incumbent on the ballot, this newly drawn Senate district was a priority for both political parties.
