 Description:  The Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act of 1940 (SSCRA) is a federal statute designed to protect those who have been obliged to drop their own affairs to take up the burdens of the nation. It is intended to enable persons on active duty and activated reservists to devote their attention exclusively to the defense needs of the nation by providing for the temporary suspension of civil proceedings that might prejudice the civil rights of such persons.
