Kirby Avenue over Interstate 57 to be closed for Bridge Repairs Detour Route Changed

 Volume/Number:  2012 May 29
 Issuing Agency:
Description:  The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that between June 4, 2012 and August 3, 2012, Kirby Avenue over Interstate 57 will be closed for bridge repairs. The closure will be between Cobblefield Road on the west and Holmstrom Street on the east. A revised detour route will be implemented using Staley Road, Curtis Road, and Duncan Road. The revision was needed due to the weight limit posting of the bridge carrying Windsor Road over Interstate 57. The project has started with occasional lane closures on Interstate 57 to allow prepatory work underneath the structure. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained on I-57 and Kirby will be closed as discussed above.

Kickapoo Creek Project - Phase I: IEPA 319 Grant: Final Report

 Volume/Number:  2009 July 24
 Issuing Agency:
Description:  The City of Bloomington was awarded a $950,000 IEPA 319 Grant to implement several strategies to control nonpoint source pollution, including sediment and nutrients, along Kickapoo Creek in McLean County, IL. The project site is located at the junction of two headwater tributaries of Kickapoo Creek, approximately 6 miles east of downtown Bloomington, where a new 450 acre subdivision is being constructed. The watersheds of the two tributaries are markedly different; with the smaller northern tributary urbanizing while the larger, eastern tributary remains agricultural for the foreseeable future. The site provided a unique opportunity to study and implement several strategies for nonpoint source pollution control by restoring the channel and floodplain within an 88-acre City park.
