2: | | Title: | | | | Volume/Number: | 2004 May | | | Issuing Agency: | | | | Description: | On Friday night, April 23, 2004, an explosion occurred at the Formosa Plastics Corporation plant in Illiopolis, located between Springfield and Decatur along I-72. Illinois EPAs Emergency Response Unit staff were on site before midnight and began monitoring the air around the plant and in the community. During the weekend and the next week, other Illinois EPA staff worked with the Village of Illiopolis public water supply operator to test and insure the safety of the drinking water supply. Additional sampling was done along an unnamed creek just south of the site property, which continues east to the Long Point Slough and the Sangamon River. Since then, Illinois EPA has determined that a long-term presence at the site is needed in the form of oversight regarding site investigation and proper cleanup of contamination. | | | Date Created: | 05 14 2012 | | | Agency ID: | Fact Sheet #1 | | | ISL ID: | 000000042225 Original UID: 21739 FIRST WORD: Formosa

7: | | Title: | | | | Volume/Number: | 2007 October | | | Issuing Agency: | | | | Description: | Based on the human health threat from exposure posed by the dilapidated, asbestos-containing school located at 29th Street in Cair9 (also known as the Lincoln School), the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) will abate the asbestos where safe to do so and remove the building using State funds. Cairo is located at the confluence of the Mississippiand Ohio Rivers in the southernmost part of the State. Due to the condition of this former school, it is highly likely that asbestos fibers are being released to the environment and coming in contact with trespassers. Health concerns for human exposure warrants corrective action at this location. | | | Date Created: | 05 02 2012 | | | Agency ID: | Fact Sheet #1 | | | ISL ID: | 000000041815 Original UID: 21592 FIRST WORD: Former

It is our intention that Illinois Environmental Protection Agency fact sheets will be distributed every two months, prior to the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) meetings. However, in the future, it is the Illinois EPA's intention to transfer the development and distribution of fact sheets to the Air Force.
