 Description:  The Illinois State Board of Education respectfully submits this annual report to the General Assembly in fulfillment of the requirements of Section 2-3.51(a-15) of the School Code [105 ILCS 5/2-3.51(a-15)]. This report addresses the results of the Reading Improvement Block Grant Program and the progress being made on improving the reading skills of students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Specifically, this report provides information from a random sample on: the number of students served within a district as well as the districts total kindergarten through sixth grade population; the assessments used to show progress; the full time equivalent of the reading specialists, reading teachers or reading aides; and the percentage of districts showing improvement in reading.
