  • The Intersystems Library Delivery Service (ILDS) is both a product of the active library resource sharing environment in Illinois and an innovative, unique contribution to the notable success of the state's cooperative programs. For one year now, ILDS has provided librarians throughout the state with an economic and timely alternative to the increasingly costly traditionally slow book rate services. It has facilitated extending the wealth of Illinois' library resources to all residents in the state, regardless of the location. The first year of ILDS operation has also demonstrated the feasibility of such a program and has generated what may be valuable information for others planning to initiate or manage a similar service.
