.Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse Whitehas launched new program to aid elderly victims of violent crimes in applying for resources underthe Illinois Crime Victim's Compensation Act. Through the Act, librarians and law enforcementofficers statewide are trained in how to recognize the need for crime victim's compensation whendealing with library patrons or crime victims. The program will now emphasize Assistance for ElderlyVictims of Violence. Seminars at libraries across the state will provide attendees better under-standing of the impact that crime has on elderly victims and their legal rights, and provide con-nection to local elder abuse agencies. "This program will help elderly people gain accessto much needed resources in the wake of violent crime," said Secretary White. "It's big step in get-ting these victims back to living their lives and obtaining the compensation and assistance theydeserve as result of the crime."
