Description
This report highlights selected financial data along with issues and recommendations as specified in Illinois statute. Over 12,000 public assistance clients attended adult education classes in FY 98. Of these 39.4% increased their earnings enough to reduce or cancel their monthly cash grants. The annual welfare savings is estimated at $14.6 million in FY98.

.Fiscal 1998 Adult Education & Literacy 1998 Achievements 39.4% (4,694) recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) experienced increased earnings enough to reduce or cancel their monthly grants, amounting to welfare savings of $14.6 million. The Illinois General Assembly appropriated an additional $6 million for performance-based funding. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) responded by developing student-focused outcomes and awarded funds accordingly. Distributed first local performance results based on data from the Illinois Common Performance Management System. Participated in development of Crossroads Café II, distance learning project for non-native English-speaking adults. Redesigned the adult education information system and integrated it into every local adult education program.
