.Illinois Documents Depository Program Fact Sheet The Illinois Documents collection at the Illinois State Library (ISL) is historical representation of state government since Illinois was granted statehood in 1818. Illinois law requires the deposit of hard copies of each state agency publication to be deposited with the ISL. These copies are for the ISL collection and for resource sharing with plus libraries throughout the state that participate in the document depository program. In addition to submitting tangible copies of publications, all state agencies are required to submit publications published in all formats to the Illinois State Library. Agencies shall submit electronic copies of print publications and acceptable electronic formats of publications posted on the Web. The State Library Act states: The State Librarian shall set by rule the standard to be used for electronic data exchange among State agencies and the State Library.
